1Terrible, mass produced garbageApr 24, 2007
[...]The mask really makes or breaks the costume and in this case, totally breaks it.

Next is the body armor. Not bad, just not much to it. It moves around way to easy and under the weight of the cape, which is the BEST part of the costume, and really must be secured with velcro or something to remedy the pulling on it.

The body suit is okay, just not very comfortable. The cut of it is not that great. Also worth noting is that it is a one piece jumpsuit, not a two piece deal. This is especially uncomfortable for me, as I am 6'5" and find this thing "wedgy" city. I got a XL version and still it fits like this. Keep in mind David Prowse is 6'6" and you'll understand why this ought not be so for a guy my heighth. Vader is for us big guys over six feet. The rest need to get real and be a Stormtrooper or Jawa. Why this fits me so bad is unforgiveable.

The gloves, boot covers/shin guards are okay, although you can see the moulding divit centered in the FRONT of each one of them from where the moulds were filled with the plastic. Very cheap in my opinion.

The actual chest box and belt are a joke. They feel like a cheap plastic toy and are painted just like one.

Overall, this thing is a real disappointment and I advise anyone interested to not pay more than $[...]for one. Not $[...] and above. Rubies ought to be ashamed for making this so poorly. However, we get what we pay for. Anyone thinking they were getting a movie quality prop, as the adverts and description elude to got sucked into the hype, including me.

Lesson learned. This thing was mass produced in China and it shows it 100%. Avoid this costume or you'll be sorry.

Think I'm ranting? Yep, $[...] worth of it. For others who've paid the same or more...well to quote Bill Clinton, "I feel your pain."

3Good, but not GreatOct 26, 2005
This costume is good, but not Great. Like the previous reviewers, I would have been thrilled with this if the price was 200-300 dollars. but for 599 (what I paid on ebay) this thing is a total rip off. I like the costume, and the jumpsuit. the cape and inner cape are perfect. But the helmet is a disaster. Luckily I have another one from years ago to wear. For a off the shelf costume, this thing is awesome. For the price, a ripoff. I needed something in a hurry, so this will do for now. I plan to have the body suit tailored in the future though.

for something mass produced it is an ok item

2Not as good as you expectOct 14, 2005
First let me say the review giving it 1 star is accurate. The mask is terrible, everything said is true. The face is warped to one side and so is the back. Mine appears to not even be finished. The plastic doesn't have a good shiny finish to it, and one side has a stripe in the finish (part is shiny the rest isn't, same all over the front). Absolutely inexcusable for the amount some people are paying. Luckily I have another one that is about 23 years old and in good condition.
The cape is nicer than I expected and the armor is ok. The back to the boot tops is too large and does allow them to fall down, but that can be fixed. There is a problem with the cape pulling the armor up and back, again this can be fixed.
By the way I am 6 feet tall and weigh 185lbs. with a 36 inch waist. The fit is as good as you can expect for a mass produced costume.
Overall I'm disappointed with the purchase. When I spend this much I shouldn't have to "fix" anything at all. Something should be done about this because as is, there is no way I would advise anyone to pay such an amount for the poor workmanship exhibited in this costume. I think a fair price might be in the $200 range at most. Wish I could have seen it before I bought it, the pictures are alright but the angles can be deceiving and hide the defects. It also doesn't matter where you get it. Look at the box this is a worldwide distribution package.

4Awesome CostumeOct 12, 2005
The previous review knocks a few things on the costume but says quite a bit of nice things about it, but overall gives it just a 1 star rating. Totally unfair. He is right about a few points but overall this is an awesome costume. The cape and robe are much nicer than I expected (the cape is very thick and a little heavy, so it can pull back the shoulder armor). The plastic armor is not cheap when you compare it to the plastic in the other masks and costumes. This plastic is of a much thicker/sturdy stock. The shin guards look great though I was a little surprised at the 'leather' zip up back. It is so you can wear it with low boots but still look like you are wearing boots up to your knee. I actually have some equestrian riding boots and they fit over it just fine and they never slipped on me. You can buy PVC riding boots for $60 on line or you can just do what they intended, use it with short boots or shoes.

The jumpsuit was better than I imagined and though it is not leather by any means, it does the job. The straps that go over your shoulders to help hold the chest box up are very long but adjustable, I just had to trim off a lot of excess strap. The regular was designed for a 34" waist and up to a 44" chest but the suit fit me rather well and I'm 5'11" and 160lbs with a 32" waist and a 38-40 chest (depends on the suit). I thought I was going to have it taken in but I'm not. The pants come to my ankles and all I'm going to do is use some boot blouser straps to hold the ankle cuffs down so they go all the way down into my boots. I will agree that the cod piece could have been more adjustable. I have it adjusted all the way and it is still a smidge too loose. The chest box and belt are great and the light up function is really cool. The chest box doesn't just light up, it has a light pattern. The helmet is a tad large, but when you compare the old helmet (from Episodes IV-VI to the one in III you will notice that they made the EpIII one bigger). Also, this is not the cheaper one with the voice changer but a much heavier version and is fully padded inside, hence the bigger size (also it has a speaker inside with a Vader beathing unit so the sound comes from the helmet and not from somewhere else). I didn't have any trouble moving my head once I adjusted the straps to hold it snug to my face, I guess I have a long neck. I think the previous reviewer's problem is that he is 5'7" not that the costume is bad. For the regular size you need to be at least 5'10" but at most 6'2" or 6'3" and then it will run short on you. Oh, and about the helmet warpage, mine is in perfect shape and is not flared on any side, perhaps there was something wrong with the ones that went to the UK. This is a great costume and will win tons of costume contests for a lot of people.

1Looks and Sounds Good BUT BEWARE!!Oct 10, 2005
When I saw this type of "Supreme" costume was going to be available, I was excited and ordered the "Standard" size. I looked forward to its arrival. But one thing made me a bit skeptical, the name Rubies was on it. When it finally arrived, my fears became reality! But first let me tell you the good. The cape and robe are outstanding and quality. They both are very long! I am 5'7" 160lbs. So I had to get them both shortend. The chest box and belt are pretty cool and light up to give a great effect. I did have to modify the belt and cheap cod piece to fit tightly on my 30" waist. But after that, it all is downhill!!
The jumpsuit is made of pleather with a thin cotton lining. It is of typical Rubies quality (fair at best). It is not tapered to fit anyones body. The disadvantage of a "one size fits all!" But overall a bit cheap. The gloves (gauntlets) are just as cheesy!! Same material but they do fit pretty good and don't look to bad, but they could have been better. The leg armor (shin guards) are made of cheap plastic with pleather covered thin foam with a zipper on the back, but does look pretty good and like the real Vader's. The leg armor attaches to your leg by unzipping the back of the armor and wrapping it around your leg. I do have fairly large calves. Even with the jumpsuit and boots (NOT INCLUDED!! Recommend Black Superhero boots!)on, the leg armor still slid down my leg. Again, too big!! I needed to have that tailored to fit me as well. The Chest armor is again typical Rubies quality(fair at best). It does have a nice finish and is lightweight plastic. A cheesy strap in the back tightens the armor to fit a little better. Only problem, the cape is so heavy that it causes the front of the chest piece to stick up. Again, had to rig something to keep it on the chest and not stickup(outwards). Last and the most dissapointing feature. The helmet. Here is where Rubies quailty runined this costume! The helmet is made of the cheapest possible quality! It is advertised as "from the LucasArts Studios." Well, last time I saw Star Wars (last week), Darth Vader's helmet was not twice as large as the rest of him! This 2 piece helmet is way to big for anyone below 6' tall, not to mention the costume!! If you have seen the movie "Spaceballs", this exactly what it looks like (see photo). This causes the helmet to hit the chest armor and not allow you to move your head(unless you have a 12 inch tall neck!) Not to mention the helmet is actually warped!! The right side of the shell piece is correct. But the left side is actually cut incorrect and flares out very noticeably, more than the right. If you look at the back of the helmet you can see where the two sides do not line up either. The face piece is warped towards the left as well.
I did some research and spoke to several sources of Vader Costume makers(which I should have done first!!) and they all said that Rubies had some how managed to warp the helmet molds they have(obviusly NOT molds from LucasArts Studios!) and instead of getting another one or fixing it, they went ahead and produced these pieces of S***, which is typical of Rubies!! So if you get fooled by all the advertising and photos for this "Supreme" costume and buy it, you have just watsted $800 like I did. It only gets one star because of the cape and robe, otherwise it would get zero!! I will post a photo so you can see the costume and how big and warped the helmet is. Recommedation for this: too many modifications needed and poor quaility for the price, STAY AWAY and look elsewhere!!!!!
